Stomatitis, (also known as feline chronic gingivostomatitis (FCGS), mucositis, and lymphoplasmacytic stomatitis), is a painful and severe inflammatory condition of the entire mouth that can affect the gum tissue surrounding the teeth (gingiva), the mucous membranes that line the nasal cavity, the lips, cheeks, back of mouth, the roof of the mouth, the teeth,, periodontitis inflammation of the bone around the teeth and can cause tooth resorption. Stomatitis can affect dogs, but more commonly presents in cats.
Symptoms can include foul mouth odor, excessive drooling, inability to eat or dropping of food while eating, pawing at the mouth while not eating, painful vocalization while eating, as well as a noticeable decline in grooming habits. The actual driver of stomatitis is idiopathic (unknown) and while cats can live with the condition, over time, stomatitis can become life threatening due to the debilitating pain and residual behaviors it can produce.
Stomatitis affects approximately 10 percent of all cats, including kittens, adult, and senior cats. While the exact cause is not conclusive, an abnormal, excessive auto-immune response may trigger the immune system to attack its own tissues, often accompanied with the presence of significant bacteria, viruses, plaque and other pathogens on the teeth.
Generally, the recommended course of action includes full mouth tooth extraction (FME), however, research now suggests that perhaps 50% of cats with full extractions may continue to suffer the effects of stomatitis post surgery.
STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* is comprised of a complex and diverse array of potent, natural, phytochemicals which include proanthocyanidins (PAC's), antioxidants, tannins, a variety of alkaloids, glycosides, lignans, phenylpropanoids, polyphenolic compounds, diterpenes, sesquiterpenes, quinoids, flavonoids, benzenoids, enzymes, fructooligosaccharides (FOS), lysophosphatidic acids (LPA), quinovic acid, glycosides, carboxyl alkyl esters, catechins, procyanidins and more, that combine to potentially help address the conditional needs of stomatitis.
STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* is an adjunctive support, containing a diverse variety of natural, plant actions including adaptogen anti-inflammatory, immune modulators (may help upregulate or down regulate the immune system as needed), analgesic, antioxidant, plant based antibiotic and steroid, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-septic, anti-microbial, anti-abscess, anti-ulcerous, vulnerary (wound healing), anti-mycobacterial, astringent, anti-mutagenic, smooth muscle protectant, hemostatic, disinfectant, antacid, anesthetic, sedative, anti-candidal, anti-yeast, anti-psoriatic, digestive, detoxifier, hepatoprotective, hepatotonic, cellular protector, gastroprotective, and gastrotonic, actions.
STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* may have potential, adjunctive applications for dental health including stomatitis, gingivitis (swollen gums), periodontitis, mouth blisters, boils and sores, plaque and tartar build up, tooth ache and tooth pain and inflammation and infection at the wound site. The formula contains an important plant action which may help restrict energy and ATP electron transport required by fungal, viral, and bacterial infections to take root and proliferate and several of the plants have confirmed actions that help kill the bacteria that causes gingivitis and exacerbates stomatitis as well as microorganisms responsible for periodontitis.
STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* is used holistically and adjunctively to help seal and heal all types of wounds, abrasions, ulcerations, abscesses, idiopathic skin and tissue conditions, excessive bleeding and salivation, and internal and external inflammation related to bacterial, fungal, viral, septic, or microbial origins, including antigens and pathogens. It may also help address systemic, chronic, or recurrent infections commonly associated with antibiotic resistance due to plants ability to inhibit beta-lactamase, an enzyme produced by some bacteria that inactivates antibiotics, potentially working to help shut down this process.
STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* contains natural, healthy, phytochemical content which may help promote skin and cellular regeneration via its collagen production capabilities both internally and externally. One of the plant compounds has been studied for its potential actions to help address the conditional needs of vesicular stomatitis virus. Additionally, some of the plants contain a unique, signaling system known as quorum sensing, in which the plants trick the pathogen from thinking it is alone, when it is surrounded by thousands of fellow pathogens.
STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* may help block bacterial, viral, and fungal communication pathways, may help disarm bacteria, viruses, and fungi, may help regulate the rate of toxin die off and may help make foreign pathogens vulnerable to be destroyed by the immune system.
Toxin die off is a natural process of breaking down and evicting foreign invaders in the body, but too much die off can damage healthy surrounding tissues, further dismantle the immune system, and produce loose stools, excessive thirst, and even organ damage in at-risk animals. STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* contains gut protecting digestive enzymes, prebiotics, probiotics, FOS, and smooth muscle soothing plants that may help manage toxin die off comfortably and may help support native gut flora and balanced digestion.
When stomatitis presents, it is critical that the immunes system regains balance. One of the plants in STOMA RIGHTIS MAX* is Cat's Claw, studied for its immunomodulatory and self-regulating support of deep immune function, due in part, to its adaptogenic actions which may help soothe an over-reactive immune system or help stimulate an under performing immune system, as needed. Cat's Claw also has also been studied for its potential effects to help suppress pro-inflammatory cells and agents that can degrade tissue, while activating a tissue protective biochemical, which may potentially help preserve healthy tissues when a pro-inflammatory, auto-immune disease such as stomatitis present.
It is strongly suggested to feed your kittens, adult and senior cats wet or soft, home prepared meals instead of hard kibble. If pet parents opt for tooth extraction, it is suggested to transition from hard kibble to soft, wet foods prior to surgery. Post surgery, soft, wet, or home prepared foods becomes a requirement.
Emerging research also suggests other possible causes may be related to feline calicivirus, feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), however, stomatitis is not contagious to animals or people
INGREDIENTS*
Contains a proprietary formula which includes plants such as Cat's Claw Extract Uncaria Tomentosa Extract and Brazilian Peppertree.
Our powders meet all requirements of European Pharmacopoeia (EP), and the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP).
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Do not give to pregnant or nursing pets, pets about to be bred or scheduled for surgery within 2 weeks nor pets using immune suppressants. Strongly cautioned for use with cardiac, diabetic, hypoglycemic, sedative, blood thinning, and blood pressure lowering drugs as the formula may potentiate these medications.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Interacts with anti-coagulant medications and vitamin K. May strengthen the effects of insulin, diabetic, Coumadin, blood-thinning drugs and blood pressure lowering drugs (antihypertensive drugs) as it can interact and slow down the rate in which the liver breaks down medications such as lovastatin, Rimadyl, ketoconazole, itraconazole, fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion) and others. Consult your vet.
CAUTIONS:
May reduce platelet aggregation and is cautioned for pets using diabetic, hypoglycemic, cardiac, blood pressure or blood thinning medications. Cat’s claw might cause the immune system to become more active. If your cat/dog has one of these conditions, consult with your Vet provider prior to use.
